What is a media player?
A media player is a physical hardware device that communicates between the CMS and displays to show content.
There are two main types:
External media players - separate hardware devices (such as a box or stick) attached to a screen.
Built-in media players (System-on-Chip displays) - supported professional signage monitors that have an integrated media player.
The Xibo player app can be installed to both separate and integrated media players, giving you the flexibility to choose the best solution for your requirements.
How do I purchase a Xibo recommended media player device?
Xibo recommended media players devices can be purchased directly from our hardware partners.
Can I use a media player not listed here?
For the best experience, we strongly recommend selecting a Xibo recommended player from our supported list. That said, if you have a specific media player in mind that’s not listed, we’d love to hear from you. Please fill out our feedback form and our team will review it for potential inclusion in our roadmap.
I have a DSCS95 or DSCS9X, what are my options?
Even though the DSCS9X and DSCS95 are now retired devices, they continue to be excellent media hardware and, should you have one of these devices, it will be suitable to run our current Xibo for Android Player application. Our support team will still be able to provide support for Xibo for Android on both devices as normal, and both devices will continue to be compatible with Xibo for Android version 4 and with version 5 (when it’s released in 2026). We will of course continue to honour the original manufacturer warranty, and extended warranties on these devices where applicable.
While we will no longer be selling the DSCS95 and DSCS9X, we will continue to collaborate with DSDevices and recommend their devices as trusted, high-quality solutions within our partner ecosystem.
