New domains to choose from
Xibo in the Cloud has experienced a little upgrade recently with the addition of 2 new domains. We have been running CMS instances on the Spring Signage cloud platform for over 2 years on the ‘xibo.co.uk [http://xibo.co.uk]’ domain and felt our customers needed a little more choice. We are pleased to announce: * signcdn.com [http://signcdn.com] * signagecloud.com [http://signagecloud.com] The new domains can be selected when creating a new instance and are available in London, New York and

Xibo, trusted by... who?
Xibo has grown enormously over the last 3 years and the project now enjoys more community involvement and more installations than ever before. We want to build on these achievements and convince even more people to adopt the “Signage for Everyone” software solution that is Xibo. We feel that to do this we need to make Xibo more marketable and easier to “access”. The first part of this work is now live, and you are reading it! The website has been redesigned from the ground up to provide Xibo i

Using DataSets to display meeting room bookings
Please note a new guide is available for 1.8 here: https://community.xibo.org.uk/t/getting-started-guide-datasets/14149 DataSets are remarkably flexible, yet if you’ve not used them before they can appear a little daunting. In this article we’ll walk through producing a layout to show the current meeting in a meeting room, that will update automatically with information from a DataSet. The finished layout will look like this. So to begin with, you need to be using Xibo CMS 1.6.1 or later. V

Xibo 1.6.0 is released, Spring Signage is ready!
Spring Signage are very pleased to announce that last night we released a new 1.6.0 Xibo to the Open Source community. This release represents just over a year of improvements and bug fixes – find out more over on the Xibo Announcement [http://xibo.org.uk/2014/05/03/version-1-6-0-released/]. It was very important to us that our Hosting and Android customers were fully supported immediately after this release, so that is exactly what we have done! Scripting Xibo Content Management - A brief tour of the API
Please note: This article refers to Xibo 1.7 only and has been retired from our catalogue of updated Guides. Please refer to the API Introduction Guide 1.8 [https://community.xibo.org.uk/t/1-8-api-introduction/7702] One common use case people put forward is that they want to update a particular piece of content in a layout automatically on a schedule. That could take the form of a video being updated on a daily basis, or an image. Since Xibo 1.5 series, there has been a “work in progress” OAut

Support for Ubuntu 12.04
Perhaps one of the most frequently asked questions we get over on Launchpad Answers [https://answers.launchpad.net/xibo] is “Does the Python client run on Ubuntu 12.04 yet”. Until the release of 1.6.0-rc1, the answer has always been no. However thanks to the work of several contributors to the Berkelium project [http://berkelium.org/], Eng Chong Meng, and to Jianjian [https://answers.launchpad.net/xibo/+question/237920], we now have a version of the client that runs on Ubuntu 12.04 and hopeful

Improved User Manual
The Xibo Digital Signage solution has grown massively over the last 3 years – unfortunately the documentation has not followed suit… until now! We have begun work on consolidating all Xibo related material into one easily accessible manual. The first revision of the Xibo for Android manual is already available here [http://springsignage.com/manual/]. The rest of the open source solution will follow when we release 1.6.0. We hope you find the new documentation useful – if you have any feedback

Moving to PDO - Notice to server admins
We have recently taken the difficult decision of migrating the Xibo code base away from the PHP MySQL extension and over to PHP PDO. Despite this being a significant development effort the end user will not notice any changes. This change will be rolled out over the next few releases with core functions/inserts/updates/deletes covered from 1.5 series, and all queries covered from 1.7 series. The advantages to PDO are many – the key ones for us are: * Potential to support different RDBMS (e.g

Become a Support Hero!
Using Xibo? Know your way around it well? Could you spare a few minutes each day to help others in the community and give something back? As Xibo has become more popular, the number of support requests in Launchpad Answers [https://answers.launchpad.net/xibo] has rocketed, to the point that the two main developers (Dan and Alex) just can’t answer every request ourselves. It takes time to replicate each person’s setup to see if the problem is general, or something local to that installation. Th

Open Source Xibo and Xibo for Android
The Xibo Project recently announced [http://xibo.org.uk/2012/11/17/xibo-for-android-by-spring-signage-open-for-private-beta/] that we were opening a private BETA for a “Xibo for Android [http://springsignage.com/xibo-for-android/]” application. This has lead to some confusion, which was never our intention. Please be assured that the Xibo Project will always remain open source [http://xibo.org.uk/legal/]! We are committed to keeping the following open and free for everyone: * Xibo CMS (Xibo

Xibo for Android by Spring Signage open for private BETA
The Xibo project has been developed and supported over the years by a small part time team in the UK who are committed to providing a full featured, free signage solution for everyone. In recent months we have taken the difficult decision of writing a client for Xibo which will be commercially available from our sponsor, Spring Signage [http://springsignage.com/xibo-for-android/]. We took this decision so that Spring Signage and the Xibo Developers could continue to finance and provide the hig
