Training Materials
I’ve recently started training other staff at work on Xibo so now seemed to be a good time to start on some training materials. I’ve put together a short document “Introduction and Basic Operations” which serves as a quick start guide for new users, or as the basis of a 30 minute training session to be delivered in conjunction with the notes. I’ve uploaded the finished document in to the Wiki as PDF and ODF documents for easy printing/editing. They’re licensed under a Creative Commons BY-SA li

1.0.1 New release archives
It’s come to light that there was a small but crucial error in the way that the 1.0.0-rc3 and later release tar balls and zip files were created. This is causing issues with clients not updating their schedule information in some cases – mainly on Microsoft IIS webservers. We’ve put up new versions of the release archives this evening with a -1 suffix (1.0.1-1). There is no need to replace your current installation unless you are experiencing problems, although we recommend using the suffix 1

Xibo on Linux Outlaws
Work on the cross-platform client is progressing well, however we want to make a few changes to libavg [http://www.libavg.de] to allow it to display more types of media – most crucially web pages (and hence flash, java etc). Fab and Dan from Linux Outlaws podcast [http://linuxoutlaws.com] very kindly put out a request for a C++/OpenGL coder to come forward and help us with the changes needed to make this happen at the end of episode 93 [http://www.linuxoutlaws.com/podcast/93]. 1.0.0 Delayed
We had hoped to release 1.0.0 today, but it’s not quite ready yet. Dan is making some final changes this evening as a result of testing I’ve done on the release this week. We also received a couple of last-minute bug reports which we felt were worthy of inclusion. If you’re itching to know what made the cut for 1.0.0, you can get a sneek peek here: https://launchpad.net/xibo/+milestone/1.0.0 Assuming all goes well, we’re aiming to release this week, hopefully tomorrow but that may slip to Satu

Guidelines for Contributing
Thank you all for the interest expressed in contributing to the Xibo project. We really appreciate all the offers of help! We realise we have been a little slow to react to these offers of help – mainly because we did not expect such a fast response after releasing an Xibo release candidate! We have now taken the time to put together some guidelines for the ways in which people can contribute and the procedure to follow. You can find these guidelines on the wiki here: http://wiki.xibo.org.uk/wi

A move to OpenID and MediaWiki
In the interest of streamlining the Xibo Projects documentation and development efforts we have taken two steps. Firstly we have a new Wiki (http://wiki.xibo.org.uk) which replaces the old “Labs” pages (http://labs.xibo.org.uk/blueprints). We will be using this new wiki for: * Developer Documentation * Feature Specifications * Guidelines and FAQ * User Manual We will be using the Wiki in conjunction with Launchpad ( https://launchpad.net/xibo). Launchpad will remain the system for Answer

Client Setup Tips
A few people have posted questions over in Launchpad recently asking for advice on how to setup Window to best support Xibo’s .net Client. There’s a new article over on the Wiki: http://labs.xibo.org.uk/blueprints/Home/documentation/-net-client-setup-steps It goes through some basic steps, eg turning off Windows sounds, power saving, screen savers etc as well as some general advice for working with Powerpoint items. I hope people find it useful.

Blueprints and Developments
Dan and I spent about 4 hours today going though all the Blueprints (feature requests) we’ve had since releasing Xibo, and considering them for inclusion in the 1.0 and 1.1 series. I think here it’s worth explaining how we’re going to proceed after 1.0.0 is released. * 1.0.x will be stable releases of Xibo, and will have no new features. We will continue to backport bug fixes in to this series. Only the current Windows .net client will be available for use with 1.0.x (officially anyhow!

Xibo 1.0.0-rc3 Released
The Xibo development team are proud to announce the availability of Xibo 1.0.0 release candidate 3. This is primarily a bug fix release candidate and we would therefore recommend that everyone using rc1 or rc2 upgrade, especially in non-UK timezones [http://xibo.org.uk/2009/03/14/timezones/]. Many thanks to everyone who reported issues with rc1 and rc2. We would like to thank each one of you for your invaluable help. Important Notes: * 1.0.0-rc3 is NOT compatible with databases from 1.0.0-

Timezones
We’re hoping to have Xibo 1.0.0-rc3 ready for general release later today. The latest release will address some issues that were found using Xibo outside it’s native UK timezone. With Xibo in such early stages, we strongly recommend everybody to upgrade to 1.0.0-rc3 – but especially if you are using Xibo in a non-UK timezone. We are aware that 1.0.0-rc3 will still show dates in EU format (ie dd/mm/yyyy), and that it is not currently possible to customise this. There is a blueprint in Launchpa

Xibo Statistics
You may have noticed a new box on the sidebar today “Xibo Statistics”. We’re very interested to know what the takeup for Xibo has been, so the next rc release of Xibo (1.0.0-rc3) will include optional anonymous statistics gathering. If your Xibo server has access to the internet, and you choose to do so, it will report back to us once every 28 days the following information: * Version * Number of Displays Licensed This is done in an anonymous way using a randomly generated identifier which

Xibo 1.0.0-rc1 Released
The Xibo development team are proud to announce the availability of Xibo 1.0.0 release candidate 1. The 1.0.0-rc1 release of Xibo is a major milestone for the project, as it means that we will be running this code on a live display screen in production for the first time since the code-base was overhauled and released under the AGPL v3. We’d love to hear from people who are willing to give Xibo 1.0.0-rc1 a try. Please report any bugs you find in the bugs section of Launchpad [https://bugs.laun
