Xibo for ChromeOS Installation

Xibo for ChromeOS is designed to run in Kiosk mode as an auto-launch application. Your device must be provisioned as a Kiosk device.

Prepare your CMS

Please ensure you have a Xibo CMS 4.2.0 or later before starting the installation steps.

The latest version of the ChromeOS player can be downloaded from the Xibo website.

  • Upload the .zip.chrome file to your CMS to Player Versions under the Displays section of the main CMS menu.
  • Once uploaded, click on Display Settings and find the default profile for ChromeOS.
  • Use the row menu and select Edit. From the General tab, set the Player version to be the version you uploaded:

.

To upgrade to a newer version, follow the steps listed above to download and upload to Player Versions. Once uploaded, update the Player Version in Display Settings.

White Label customers

Xibo for ChromeOS pulls branding assets, logo, splash screen, etc from your CMS. If you have a white label on your CMS, ensure that you have rebuilt it in My Account.

Prepare your Google admin console

Before provisioning your device, add the Xibo CMS you want to connect to your Kiosks tab in Google Admin console.

  • Use the plus button at the bottom right to “Add by URL” which is the icon showing a world globe.

  • The URL to add is https://<<your CMS URL>>/pwa

  • Finally, at the top of the Kiosks view, adjust the “Auto-launch app” to be Xibo Digital Signage.

  • You can go ahead and enrol your device as a Kiosk.

  • When Xibo opens on the device it will display a code which you can enter into the CMS using the “Add Display (Code)” option in the CMS.

You will need a Kiosk and Signage upgrade licence, which can be purchased from your local Google reseller.

Connect to your CMS

Xibo will automatically open on your ChromeOS Kiosk device after rebooting to connect a Display using one of the two methods available:

  1. Use Code

or

  1. Manual Configuration (CMS Key)

Use Code

  • This is the default option
  • Ensure that the code remains on screen until you have entered it in your Displays administration page and the Player launches automatically. Closing this form will hide the code and will stop the configuration.
  • In the CMS navigate to the Displays page and click on the Add Display (Code) button at the top of the page.

  • Enter the Activation Code as shown on the Player screen.

  • Save.

Once successfully configured, the Player will show it its splash screen while it waits for authorisation.

Continue from the Display Authorisation section below.

Manual Configuration

  • CMS Key - The secret Key that will authenticate this Display with the CMS.

Assuming there are no errors with the communication between the CMS and the Player, the Display will be registered and awaiting authorisation as detailed in the Display Authorisation section below.

The CMS Key can be viewed from the CMS under the Administration menu by clicking on Settings and navigating to the Configuration tab.

Before the Player can receive Scheduled Events and display Layouts/Campaigns you will need to Authorise the Display to connect to the CMS.

  • Click on Display Admin from the Player Options window or log in to the CMS and select Displays from the main CMS menu to see your newly registered Player in the list.
  • Use the row menu for this Player and select Authorise from the drop-down menu.
  • Click Yes to confirm the authorisation of this Display.

Display Setting Profiles

Once registered, the Player will be given a default Display Setting Profile. For further information see the Display Settings section.

You can change settings on your ChromeOS player by assigning it an alternate Display Settings Profile, however it will always install the player version from the default profile.
